HMX
HMX is a white, opaque crystalline powder, free of visible impurities and moisture. HMX is used to produce detonating cords and shock tubes that remain thermally stable up to ~300 °C. It is also blended with other explosives and with plasticizers/phlegmatizers to make compositions such as FO-4.5, FP-3.5, OWC, Octol, and LX-14 for warhead main charges, ammunition, boosters, pyrotechnic devices, and oil-well charges. When combined with polymer binders, HMX forms PBX materials suitable for insensitive-munitions applications.

Avoid Shock, Impact & Heat: HMX is a high explosive — avoid strong shock, impact, friction and proximity to heat sources or open flames; rough handling increases risk.
Do Not Attempt Improvised Initiation: Detonation requires approved initiation systems and must only be performed by trained technicians. Never attempt to ignite or initiate by flame, spark, or improvised means.
Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, in original/approved packaging, away from incompatible materials (strong oxidizers, acids, etc.), ignition sources and direct sunlight. Follow SDS and local regulations for segregation and limits.
Static Electricity & Electrostatically Sensitive Operations: Take precautions to minimize static buildup; conduct transfers and handling per approved, site-specific procedures and grounding/bonding protocols.
Packaging Integrity: Keep packaging sealed, intact and clearly labeled to prevent contamination and preserve stability. Inspect packaging regularly for damage.
